Profile

Emmanuelle Jeannot is a native French speaker, born in Paris. After completing her baccalauréat, Emmanuelle went to l'Université Paris V - René Descartes where she gained a Degree (maîtrise) in social psychology and a Masters (Diplôme d'Études Supérieures Spécialisées) in cognitive ergonomics. Emmanuelle also holds a qualification in advertising and marketing.

After university Emmanuelle began her professional career as a Human Factors specialist (ergonome) in Paris. In particular, she spent five years at the prestigious European organisation for Air Traffic Management (ATM) known as EUROCONTROL. Given the predominance of English in the field of ATM, Emmanuelle was using English as her working language on a daily basis. In 2000 she moved to the UK where she worked at QinetiQ on a wide range of civil and military technological projects. She set up her own company HF Matters Ltd  in 2005, working as an independent Human Factors consultant but also as a translator and language consultant.

Living and working in the UK has given Emmanuelle a thorough knowledge of the workings of the English language and British culture in general. Wishing to capitalise on her linguistic skills, in 2008 she launched a new career as a freelance translator and French tutor. Aware that professional translation involves much more than fluency of two languages, Emmanuelle studied for the Diploma in Translation (Dip Trans) with City University London, which she duly passed in January 2010.

Emmanuelle is a member of the Chartered Institute of Linguists. She is also an Associate of the Institute of Translation & Interpreting and an active member of its French network.

At the acclaimed ITI professional translation workshop held in October 2011, she acted as the Coordinator of the English to French group.
